Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 May 2026 · Effective: 7 May 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Byte Insights Limited (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the idle.py mobile application (the “App”) and the website at idlepy.com (the “Site”, together the “Services”).
We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. Byte Insights Limited is registered in the United Kingdom. You can contact us at any time at support@idlepy.com.
1. Summary
- idle.py does not require you to create an account or sign in.
- We do not ask for your name, email, address, phone number, photos, contacts, microphone, camera, or location.
- We do not show third-party advertising in the App.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- Your game saves are stored on your device. Anonymous analytics and crash data help us improve the App.
- If you make a purchase, the App Store or Google Play handles your payment — we never see your card details.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide
The App has no sign-in. The only thing you actively provide is in-game progress (taps, Compute Units bought, lessons completed, scenarios and events answered). That progress is saved locally on your device and not transmitted to us in personally identifiable form.
2.2 Information collected automatically
When you use the App we collect a limited set of technical and product-analytics data through our analytics provider PostHog:
| Category | Examples | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Anonymous device identifier | A randomly generated UUID assigned by PostHog the first time the App runs. | Distinguish unique devices for analytics. Not linked to your name, email, or any account. |
| Device & OS info | Device model, operating system version, App version, language, timezone. | Diagnose bugs and decide which devices and OS versions to support. |
| Product analytics events | App opened, lesson started/completed, quiz answered, Compute Unit bought, AI Landmark reached, retrain performed, scenario or event completed, store viewed. | Understand which features are used, balance progression, and improve lessons. |
| Crash & error reports | Stack traces, error messages, the screen you were on when an error occurred. | Detect and fix bugs. |
2.3 Purchase information
In-app purchases are handled by Apple’s App Store or Google Play. We never receive your payment card details or full billing address. Our purchase orchestration provider RevenueCat receives a transaction record from the store containing:
- The product purchased (e.g.
pro_founder,skip_24h). - The platform (iOS or Android), country code, currency, and price tier.
- The store-issued transaction identifier.
- An anonymous app user ID assigned by RevenueCat (linked to the same device-level analytics ID where possible).
We use this information to grant entitlements, validate purchases, process refunds, and prevent fraud. We never receive your full card number, CVV, or PIN.
2.4 Information stored on your device
Game saves — including your FLOPs balance, Compute Units owned, lesson progress, mastery
levels, knowledge levels, insight, AI Landmarks reached, achievements unlocked, Transcendence Units
earned, and purchase entitlements — are stored locally on your device using standard mobile
storage (AsyncStorage). They are not transmitted to us. Uninstalling the App deletes
this data.
3. How We Use Information
- Provide and operate the App, including saving and restoring your progress.
- Process and validate in-app purchases and grant entitlements.
- Diagnose crashes and bugs.
- Understand which features are used and improve gameplay balance and the curriculum.
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent or abusive use of the Services.
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. Legal Bases (UK / EEA users)
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, we rely on the following lawful bases under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR:
- Performance of a contract — to deliver the App and complete purchases you make.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the App secure, prevent fraud, and improve product quality through aggregated analytics. Our interests are balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation — to keep tax records of purchases and respond to lawful requests.
- Consent — where applicable (e.g. optional analytics where local law requires it). You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing.
5. Sharing
We share information only with the service providers needed to run the App:
| Provider | Purpose | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| Apple App Store / Google Play | Distribute the App and process payments. | Whatever the store collects directly from you. We do not see your card details. |
| RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA) | Validate purchases and manage entitlements. | Anonymous app user ID, store transaction receipts, product IDs, country, price. |
| PostHog (PostHog Inc. and PostHog Limited) | Product analytics and crash reporting. | Anonymous device ID, device/OS info, gameplay events, error reports. |
| Hosting / cloud infrastructure | Run our servers and the website at idlepy.com (GitHub Pages). | Standard server logs (IP address, user-agent, request path) retained for a short period. |
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share data with advertisers. We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of any person.
6. International Transfers
Our service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum where applicable).
7. Retention
- Game saves — stored on your device until you uninstall the App or clear App data.
- Analytics events — retained by PostHog for up to 12 months in identifiable form, then aggregated.
- Purchase records — retained by RevenueCat and us for up to 7 years to meet UK tax and accounting obligations.
- Server logs — retained for up to 30 days.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction or deletion of that data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Request data portability.
- Withdraw consent where we relied on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Because the App does not require an account, we identify you by the anonymous device ID assigned by PostHog. To exercise your rights, please contact us at support@idlepy.com from the device you used to play, and include the device ID found in Settings → About inside the App. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Children’s Privacy
idle.py is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA where local law requires). The App does not include social features, third-party advertising, in-app messaging, or open chat. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Communication with our service providers uses TLS encryption. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. If we make material changes we will provide notice through the App or by updating the version published at idlepy.com/privacy.html.
